A note from Chris Searle, chair downsman committe
With preparations now in full swing for the 2018 Downsman, I would like to take the opportunity of saying a quick hello on behalf of the new organising committee. Before doing so, I wish to pay a deserving tribute to the retired organising committee. Chaired by Richard Sullivan, they have done an outstanding job of running the Downsman and have left us with massive boots to fill.
The Downsman has a rich heritage dating back to 1967. I am fortunate enough to have had some great Downsman experiences of my own. I have competed as a Venture Scout and then again, some 20+ years later, as an adult leader and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Similarly, the new committee has a wealth of Downsman experience, we have entered teams, trained teams, manned checkpoints and competed in the event. We are now enthusiastically getting stuck in to our new roles and responsibilities.
This year will see some exciting changes, there are too many to summarise in a paragraph so even if you consider yourself to be familiar with the Downsman please read over the web site and review the handbook in full.
Finally, the Downsman is open to all members of the Scout Association & Girlguiding UK, to include young people and adults alike. We hope to see as many teams as possible on Saturday 6th October.
Best Regards
Chris Searle
