Arrival Instructions

Teams will be allocated an arrival time for the car park at their start location, they will then book in with checkpoint staff. Due to parking constraints, keep the number of vehicles at the start & finish locations to an absolute minimum. The Service Crew car will transport most, if not all of the team. Organise parents/leaders to lift share for teammates that cannot be accommodated in the Service Crew vehicles to the start locations. Any such lift sharing cars, that are only dropping off teammates, must depart the carpark as soon as their team is with their Service Crew. Arrive very punctually, teams arriving too early or too late may be turned away and asked to return later for the first available time slot. Hiking start times will be allocated after kit checks are complete and will be within the range stated. It is anticipated that well organised teams will have started hiking within 20 minutes of their allocated car park arrival time.

The start times for classes A & B have been significantly moved forward to 06:00 – 06:30. This has been done to make full use of daylight hours and to bring forward the checkpoint closure times at the far end of the route. To help facilitate this change, Class A & B teams may stay overnight – free of charge – on the Friday evening at Sutton Village Hall, The St, Sutton, RH20 1PS.  Teams staying over may complete their check in and kit checks on the Friday evening.  Please contact us via the Downsman website for further information.

The start and finish locations have been moved for the Open Class and Class S to remove the need for our younger teams to cross some very busy roads.

The start for Class V has moved to Steyning Bowl with teams in this class now finishing at Eastbourne.

For the Open Class and Class S, a batch of teams will arrive at the small carpark at Westmeston Village Hall every 15 minutes. Therefore, arriving late for your allotted time will cause delays for others either participating in the event, or running the start point. Therefore, Leaders must ensure that Teams arrive at Westmeston ready to hike, ie team equipment has already been issued and rucksacks are packed.  This must be done in advance of arriving at Westmeston Village Hall. Your cooperation in helping get your teams swiftly through the check in process is greatly appreciated.

No vehicles can be left behind at any of the start locations.

At the finish, the whole team will be invited to see a member of the Eastbourne District Scout First Aid Team (EDSFAT) for a voluntary assessment. Please encourage your teams to declare any injuries that they may have, rather than attempt to hide them.
